How We Select Fabric Mills and Supply Partners
Our supplier selection process is built around three ideas: technical fit, business fit, and personal trust.
At Acadian Industrial Textiles, we don't treat mills as interchangeable vendors. We treat them as long‑term partners whose decisions and capabilities directly affect your product performance, delivery reliability, and pricing.

We start with hard criteria, not just a low quote
Before we visit any mill, we screen candidate suppliers carefully.
-
Quality systems and certifications appropriate to industrial and technical fabrics.
-
Technical capability for the specific products we sell and source: woven polypropylene shade fabrics, HDPE knits and wovens, truck cover fabrics, containment fabrics, netting, and other specialty textiles.
-
Capacity, lead times, and consistency history, so supply can grow with our customers.
This early qualification saves customers time and money by avoiding mills that look good on paper but won't deliver in practice. Click here to read more about our Strategic Sourcing process.
On-site visits with people who run the mill
Once a mill passes the initial screen, we sit down with them in person.
We walk the production floor, look at looms, coating lines / calendering, tentering, and finishing, and review real production runs — not just sample racks.
We spend time with ownership and senior management, not just sales reps, to understand how decisions are made, how they handle problems, and how they invest in their facilities.
We ask how they manage quality, how they respond to issues, and how they think about long-term customer relationships.
This is where we decide whether a mill can be a strategic partner, not just a low-price option. Face-to-face time with ownership gives us insight into their values, risk tolerance, and commitment to continuous improvement.
We look for alignment, not perfection
No mill is perfect, and no supply program is static. We choose suppliers whose strengths align with our customers' needs and whose weaknesses we can manage transparently.
-
Mills that are open to technical collaboration — refining specs, participating in third-party testing, and co-developing fabrics for new applications.
-
Ownership that understands total landed cost and is willing to discuss packaging and terms — not just per-yard price.
-
Teams that communicate clearly and respond quickly when conditions change: raw material swings, freight disruptions, or new regulatory requirements.
We document these factors so we can explain to customers not only who we're buying from, but why we trust them.
Relationship and risk: why second sources matter
Supplier selection for us also means deliberate risk management. We avoid over-reliance on a single mill or region whenever possible, even when one supplier is excellent.
Where volume and product mix justify it, we qualify backup mills with overlapping capabilities so we can protect customers against closures, political events, tariffs, or logistics disruptions.
This approach lets us offer stable supply and honest lead-time commitments, even when markets are volatile.
What this means for Acadian customers
When you buy from Acadian, you're not just buying a roll of woven PP, knit HDPE, or technical specialty fabric. You're buying into a sourcing program where mills have been:
-
Technically vetted for the specific fabrics you need.
-
Visited in person and evaluated by ownership, management, and production behavior.
-
Selected for long-term partnership potential, not just short-term price.
It's extra work on our side — but it's why we can stand behind the fabrics we sell and the suppliers who make them. Click here to learn more about Strategic Sourcing.
