Plants Grown With High Transmittance of UV Can Be More Resilient

A recent article published by Michigan State University, spoke on plant response to UV-A and UV-B transmittance in greenhouse glazing. It reviews both the mostly positive and potential negative impacts on plants grown in greenhouses and hoophouses whose plastics have been glazed.


Common plant responses ranged from: increased coloration of green and particularly purple leaves; increased stress tolerance as demonstrated by resilience during travel, transplant and while awaiting the end consumer. Also, interesting was that food crops can contain more vitamins and were considered more flavorful. At Acadian we aren't sure how you measure flavor, we are ready to be tasters....
